Dear Parents, September 11, 2009

Well, we have just completed the second week of school. The students ended the week with some fun activities. This morning, students used their photographs and pictures to decorate their writerÕs notebook and their About Me Posters. (You will be able to see these at our Open House on September 28.) This afternoon, the students who turned in their summer reading challenge received an ice cream treat. Thanks to Catherine Miller and her mom, we had yummy cupcakes and cookies to celebrate her birthday. Everyone had a treat to end the day.

DonÕt forget that Monday is a late start day for students. Students will enter the school at 10:05 AM. Buses will be running 90 minutes later then their normal schedules. There is a memo in the folder as well.

The spelling tests have been corrected. Many students forgot to have their parents sign the test. For Monday, please sign Spelling Tests 1 and 2 and return the entire booklet with the tests. Also sign the back of the parent folder and return it on Monday as well. The list for Unit 3 is in the parent folder for the next weekÕs test.

There is a PTG Welcome letter in the parent folder. The PTG could really use the help of many parents. DonÕt forget to participate in the various school reward programs mentioned on the back of the letter. Also if you can serve as a room parent for our classroom this year, let me know. I often need parent help with class events and activities. I appreciate your contribution of time with the classroom.

The students met the guidance counselor today. Her name is Shelly Blair. If you would like the counselor to work with your child, please sign and return the permission slip inside the folder. Return it on Monday.

Mrs. Hoover, our physical education teacher, has a letter about the Bearcats Get Moving. The letter explains this excellent program for students to get exercise.

There is a memo on a gymnastics program. Also there are a few corrected first week papers. There is a practice math test. We put a score to show you how your child performed on it but it does not count for a grade. The students are to correct the ones they missed and put the corrections on the blank test. They must bring the math tests back on Monday. We will be giving the graded math test on a date next week after a final review. Thanks for assisting your child with studying for this important first test.

Sincerely,

Ms. Szczerba
