Dear Parents, October 16, 2009
The scores for the spelling test and the Chapter 3 math test are inside the spelling test booklet. Please sign both so I know you have seen the scores. Also sign the parent folder and return it on Monday. Some students are forgetting to give the folders to their parents and have all of these items signed. I told them that I may be calling their parents to make sure that you see and sign the folder by Monday.
All students should have a book selected by now for their character sketch. They must bring the book in on Monday. We are going to start the character sketch project in class. They can then take their book back and forth from home and school so they can work on the writing. Some students have already completed their outline. I congratulate those students with the help of their parents to take the initiative to begin this project.
With winter weather on the way, I told the students to talk with parents and have a plan in place in the event we have an early dismissal. If students have not already done so, they should bring in a small bottle of hand sanitizer and a small package of personal tissues for their desks. Also I told the students to let you know before they come to school if they are sick so they can remain at home and get some rest to recover. We have had a lot of students out sick and any measures we can take to minimize the spread of germs will be a good thing.
Also I told students that with bad weather in the winter, we may be staying in at recess at times. With your permission, I told students they may bring in a board games or card games for indoor recess. Electronic toys are not allowed. Students should write their names on their games. We will keep them in a special place in the room. The owner of the game will be in charge of his/her game.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Ms. Hoover, our physical education teacher organizes this fun program which emphasizes a drug free lifestyle. A schedule of the weekÕs activities can be found on the bright red memo. Monday is hat day so kids can wear their favorite hat to school.
Today we did some fun activities. The students are creating a scary Haunted House story and illustrating it. We are also doing a bat unit which incorporates factual information about bats and integrates every aspect of our curriculum into some fun learning projects. The students made a bat using a soda can as a part of our bat unit. Wait until you see them.
Remind students to make corrections in their math workbook for Chapter 3. Monday is the deadline for corrections for grade improvement. Thank you for assisting your child in doing this.
Sincerely,
Ms. Szczerba
